Peace is something you create

Peace is something you create. Something you work for, and practice. That’s what, I believe, makes it worth it and all the more special. Peace, calm, and worry-free confidence are not our defaults, but a daily practice that provides balance can guide us closer to this high frequency, life changing state of being.

How do we practice balance?

It starts with awareness. So pause, check in, and feel. Bring your awareness to what feels in excess - an excess of energy wanting to be moved, thoughts you want to settle, a heaviness you want to lighten, a forgiveness of yourself or someone to help you let go, or an excess of wanting to control a situation that needs more of your trust.

Your practice of yoga asana (physical postures) might look similar day to day on the surface, yet perhaps you have different experiences each time you’re on the mat, sometimes subtle, sometimes drastic. That’s because the postures and the practice are the constant, we, our energetic states, however, are always in motion - continuously ebbing and flowing with energy and emotions and needs. Without awareness, without practices that help you feel more balanced and centered, energetic excess or depletion is inevitable, and that doesn’t lead anywhere good…

Sure, I’ve had a life without yoga or days where I’m not as into my practice, but for the vast majority of my 15 years practicing, it never gets old. The same poses, sequenced together in different ways, and I love every second of it. That’s because WE are changing, creating, healing, showing up, and leaning into the opportunity to harness the moment when we practice, and the moment is always new, innately precious. The moment doesn’t know stress, fear, and overwhelm. The moment holds opportunity for balance, opportunity for peace. This practice is the one thing that has always made sense and provided the benefits to my body and my mind - benefits that I do not hold attachments to when I roll out the mat, but that reveal themselves through a consistent practice of peace, and this is why it doesn’t get old. This is why we keep coming back. Because there’s always something to learn, our bodies feel amazing, and our minds feel more at peace.

Peace isn’t just a serene lake, babbling brook, or day at the spa. Sometimes, peace is meditation, and sometimes, it’s a 102 degree power yoga practice with push-ups and core and what can feel like survival. Set your intention and take what you need for balance. You get to push yourself as much or as little as you want because this is your time - one moment at a time.

Peace is a daily practice… keep coming back.

With love,

Grace
