Morning Ritual
The impact that starting the day with this ritual has on my mindset, energy, joy, clarity, alignment and feeling more alive is life changing. And that’s what I’ve learned is the key…even though there’s always resistance with habits that we KNOW make us feel good, the benefit is greater than that resistance, my strength behind WHY I want to feel good is stronger than that resistance, so I keep showing up, and the more consistently I show up, the more I crave these practices and can’t live without them.
Challenge yourself to a month of my morning ritual, or even find ways to tweak it into your own (again, we keep coming back to what works with our lives and our truth, not against it, so embrace what feels like you) - 5 days a week for the month of June - and watch your mindset and your life improve.
If your current habit is to wake up and look at your phone or start working, that can still be your “first move” of the day, but spend time with your higher self, awakening to the day before anything can get in your way.
Wake up and meditate |
Options for meditation:
choose from my library of guided meditations
Just breathe - try to focus your mind on each inhale and exhale, that simple, for 10 minutes, at a slow, calm pace of breath.
Journal |
Daily journal prompts:
Write about your day, as if it has already happened - get specific, how do things look, feel, what are your experiences? You’re not likely to envision something bad happening to you, so this helps put good things out there - be open to receive.
What’s one thing (in your control) that would make today great (a big walk, calling a friend or family member, accomplishing a task)
I am grateful for…
Live Mindfully |
What’s next? Pause with your mind and your body to make the next right step. Is it time for nourishment, movement, or work?
I cannot say this enough…work with your body, your energy, and your life not against it, that’s what will keep you showing up. For example, maybe you know yoga isn’t the answer in the morning, you need more rigorous movement. Maybe it would make you more anxious to not start working first thing, and adding movement later in the day after you’ve tended to some emails or work tasks better serves you. Make the mindful choice that supports you, and always start with mediation and journal.
Starting a new habit is hard. That’s just the tough love about it. To integrate this into your life, yes, we’re waking up 30-45 minutes earlier than the days of rolling out the bed and going straight for coffee. And every. single. day. it’s hard, but every. single. day. I’m better from this ritual.
For me, what comes after meditation and journal depends on the day. Some mornings I teach in studios as early as 6am, but when I have space in the morning, I know a made at home matcha and a walk is my next mindful choice. Waking up takes me awhile, so I wouldn’t have my best workout first thing in the morning. I love moving my body, going to the gym or taking a challenging, hot power yoga class, and I’ll feel my best with that more intense movement later in the late morning. We’re here to tap into truth, higher self, work WITH our body, energy, and life to set ourselves up for success, not for defeat and comparison. And it starts with awareness. It starts with a meditation and journal practice - first thing.
