Work with your body and your life, not against it.
PRACTICE is not a quick fix. If there were an overnight cure, something we could do to speed up our healing, our strength building, the journey toward our inner peace, and all the beautiful benefits of a yoga practice, I’d be the first to sign up. But, I finally learned, I don’t want a cure-all, I don’t want to force it. The real, lasting benefit is in the practice, in the work. When we try to force something in life, it turns a practice into an obligation, something you straight up hate showing up for, and it’s not going to stick.
There is always space, there is always time. In fact, what’s meant for you, what works for you ultimately becomes something you crave and can’t afford not to make time for.
PRACTICE is some moment, some day, where you pause and realize what you’re choosing in that moment is a gift to and in alignment with your higher self. The way you’re speaking to yourself, the way you handle a stressful situation, the way you resolve conflict, the way you show up for others, the way you share your love and your light, and the way you create. Some moment where you realize…”this practice changed my life.”
All the dedication, curiosity, and small, sustainable steps have supported you in arriving at this moment. The best part? It’s a lifelong journey. I don’t believe there’s a destination or some future moment that is more worthy of our gratitude and presence than the one we are in right now. We keep practicing, we stay curious, committed to learning and evolving, committed to peace.
How does yoga, especially exercise-inspired yoga, relate to any of this? It was never about the movement, it was always about what the movement represents. A practice far beyond the strength and the sweat - deeply rooted in patience, peace, focus, self-awareness - the portals to truth, heart, and creativity.
This all sounds…so good right? HOW do we get there? How do we find what works?
Know your WHY. Then practice. Every day. Practice being the person that you want to be. What are their qualities, their strengths? What do they stand for? How do they treat others? How do they spend their mornings, what do they let into their body, mind and spirit right before bed? What might need to be changed, or let go of, in order to become this type of person you desire to be?
(save the prompts above and get into your journal) !!
“Higher self,” to me, means exactly the above. The person/life in your visions, that you can’t stop dreaming about. The qualities you see in others that light a fire in your soul. Your deep knowing. Your life that feels authentic, honest, and free.
Be so gentle. Work with your body and your life, not against it.
If you’re curious about joining a holistic movement and wellness membership, it’s likely that you want to make a change. You recognize ways you want to step toward your higher self. That’s AMAZING, because awareness is the first step. My invitation is to celebrate that awareness. The win in just showing up, being curious, and making the space for something new.
AND, this is a delicate time! In seasons of making a change, starting over, and looking within, negative self talk can be present. That’s why I believe so strongly in Wild Grace Wellness, the movement, method and practices that become a way of being. Sure, you can probably get through a workout or diet that you hate for a month or so, but long term sustainability is not about just looking good, more importantly, it’s about feeling good (and trust me, looking good is a side effect of feeling good). The feeling of something is what we’re usually really after…and it’s what will keep you coming back.
In a delicate season of recognizing and implementing change you want to make in your life, a lot of the “quick fixes” make us feel so much worse! And that is certainly not sustainable. Extreme dieting, spiritual practices/knowledge, and workouts can lead to feeling defeated and incapable. Not to mention, the push back from the outside world, or even your friends and family (which usually means you’re holding up a mirror to the same health and happiness they’re wanting to experience in their own life). You get to choose, have confidence and agency in what’s important to you and what you’re prioritizing. Better yet, pay attention to the people who support you and inspire you in this journey. Stay connected to how you communicate with yourself throughout this change and process, connected to those qualities you’re working toward being, one day at a time.
If “where do I even begin” is all that’s on your mind, I hear you. To no surprise, my first advice is…meditate. Without attachment to outcome or needing something out of it, just do it, just be still, be with you. Spend time with your why and your higher self, and take small steps.
What’s the point? Look, I know wellness comes in all shapes and sizes and colors and methods these days, and in my experience, an integral part of being well//well-being is spending time with and loving yourself, but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like self love is in our human default settings. It is a practice.
You can try every diet, workout, skincare, and fill your life with titles and social circles and nice things, but true well-being is within you. It’s a truth waiting to be heard and lived and loved if we have the courage and confidence to go there.
Small implementation and integrations of the qualities of your higher self will have lasting impact. Go enjoy a wgw flow or a meditation.
